  CNN

Media companies such as CNN have come to GCS to provide its turnkey satellite-phone solutions (video integration, satphones, airtime, support). After September 11th, the need for remote and portable communications became even greater during the government’s operations in Afghanistan. From such extreme remote locations, news organizations utilized the M4-satphone to provide not only “live via videophone” see GCS-7520 Videophone) coverage of the war but also day-to-day communications such as voice, email, and store-&-forward video.

Later, with the release of the Vehicular antenna (see TT-3082AM), portable communications quickly became “mobile” communications. CNN used GCS’s vehicular antennas on Humvees they had purchased to cover the conflict in Iraq in 2003. Video was transmitted live now while on the move. Newsgathers also used “Fleet” satellite terminals (see GCS maritime terminals) to provide videophone coverage and communications from aircraft carrier decks in the Persian Gulf.
